Jay Colley, a Howard Hanna real estate agent working in the Williamsburg, VA office, recently spoke to tribeathletics.com about his recovery from the novel coronavirus.

The Virginian-Pilot reported on Jay’s original interview, noting that his ordeal began about halfway through March. Jay had originally visited a doctor on March 20 with flu-like symptoms, though he tested negative for the flu. A COVID-19 test was collected the same day.

Jay said he doesn’t know how or when he acquired COVID-19, but he fought a fever, body aches, and chills bad enough to make his teeth chatter. The ordeal had begun with sniffles and a cough.

Four days later, Jay visited an emergency room at the insistence of his doctor, who was concerned about his worsening symptoms. Although he was briefly sent home, he was later admitted to the Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center on March 28. A positive COVID-19 test came back two days later.

Finally, on March 31, he was released from the hospital with a doctor’s letter saying he was no longer infected.

Jay offered praise for his wife in the interview, noting that her assistance during his illness was critical, particularly when he quarantined himself from his family.

“My wife was the superhero in this deal,” he said. “She had to keep a cool head about herself all the while protecting herself and her dad while trying to nurse her husband, who she couldn’t get within six feet of.”

Now, as Jay begins to enjoy walks around his neighborhood again, he says that he wants everyone to know COVID-19 is far from the hoax some people were saying it was.
